My name is Ryan Kohlman and I am the sole proprietor of Progress Media Productions, LLC, an independent video production company.
In May of 2015, I resigned from my role as the Media Producer for the University of Phoenix in order to devote my time and effort to growing my video business. While at University of Phoenix, I created several videos for online content including class curricula, college promos and university events.
But it was my tenure at Fender Musical Instruments Corporation that was the most formative in both my career and personal development. In my role at Fender, I performed all stages of video production including conceptualizing, pre-visualizing, lighting, shooting, editing and delivering the final product. My efforts have resulted in growing FMIC from a fledgling media presence to one of the top video producing companies in the musical instrument industry. From the outset, I was responsible for establishing Fender’s YouTube channel which currently has over 1,200 videos with nearly 36 millions views and has accumulated over 41,000 subscribers.
I joined Fender in 2002 where I served as Marketing Coordinator for the Marketing Services department. My duties included planning and coordinating all major trade shows, distributing all marketing collateral worldwide, placing ads in all major magazine publications and tracking a multi-million dollar budget across seven different brands. It was during that time that I saw the need for video and began to create content for FMIC utilizing my 11+ years of experience in the media industry. Through my efforts, I created such a high demand for video content that FMIC made video production my sole responsibility in 2006. Since then, I have produced hundreds of videos including marketing promos, product demonstrations, artist interviews and live performances.
Prior to Fender, I worked various roles in many full-length movies and commercial productions. In 2000, I decided to take a break from my career to focus on my personal growth and to expand my cultural experience. I moved to South Korea and fulfilled a one-year contract teaching English to young students. Upon returning, I worked for Cities West Publishing as a copy writer/editor for the marketing department.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in English from Arizona State University in 1994. During that time, I also studied film and television production at Scottsdale Community College where I produced several award winning student films.
I currently live in Phoenix, AZ with my wife Leanne and my two kids, James and Julian.
